The Great Eastern State Breakout USATF certified 5K is a major fundraiser for the community organization, Friends of Eastern State Penitentiary Park. This volunteer-run organization maintains the park area that surrounds the National Historic Landmark, Eastern State Penitentiary but receives no funding from the Penitentiary. The race winds through Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood, bringing together neighbors and friends for a fun day out. The race is co-hosted by Fairmount fitness gurus, CoreFitness.
